Fuente del Jarro WWTP

Technical assistance for the southern collector of La Cañada; Fuente del Jarro wastewater treatment plant industrial estate and Paterna wastewater treatment plant (Valencia).

The Paterna I wastewater treatment plant was put into operation in 1972 with a daily flow of 4,500 m3. The new Paterna – Fuente del Jarro wastewater treatment plant has been designed to replace the previous one, without breaking the treatment that was being carried out.

The new treatment plant has had to cover the following needs: for the treatment of industrial water from the Fuente del Jarro industrial estates, as well as urban water from Paterna, la Cañada and San Antonio de Benageber, with a flow of industrial water of 18,000 m3 /day and urban water of 14,000 m3 /day.

The treatment consists of the following phases:

• Pre-treatment and primary treatment. It has been built differently for all industrial and urban water flows with a peak capacity of 1,500 m3 /h and 3,000 m3/h respectively in pre-treatment, and 1,570 m3/h for each primary treatment line
• Biological and secondary treatment. In this stage both flows are joined and it is composed of three parallel lines with a peak capacity of 736 m3 / h per line
• Sludge treatment
• Tertiary treatment
• Reuse. After the tertiary treatment, the waters are accumulated in a pumping chamber for reuse in irrigation. The pump sends a flow of water to the Fila ditch, to the Moncada ditch and for irrigation of parks and gardens of the town of Paterna, which allows to take advantage of a flow of up to 1,500 m3/h
