National Floodplain Mapping System
Development of the work
The Ministry of the Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs, following the principles of Directive 2007/60 on the assessment and management of flood risks, launched the National System of Flood Area Mapping (SNCZI), a tool to support river area management, risk prevention, territorial planning and administrative transparency.
The work includes the generation of Public Hydraulic Domain and flood zone cartography as a result of the SNCZI’s implementation work: historical and geomorphological analysis of riverbeds and plains, definition of the Public Hydraulic Domain, hydraulic modelling to determine flood zones, the preferential flow area and the riverbed based on the cartography and hydrology generated, using uni or two-dimensional hydraulic models.
And as a final phase the calibration and delimitation of the floodability.
